spring on clean

Confession time: Spring cleaning is not my forte. I love to zero in on one problem area and give it the necessary elbow grease to get it pristine again. I always feel so accomplished afterward and I’m done before I know it. But a top-to-bottom clean is such a big task that I find myself cutting corners, coming out of the experience as drained as I’ve ever been but without any sense of accomplishment. So this year, having stalled for a couple of week, I decided to think outside the box and invite a cleaning service (not the easiest thing for a housekeeping columnist to admit, but there you have it). I had serendipitously chanced upon Aspen Clean‘s booth at the Green Living Show a few weeks ago, and decided to give it a try.

I’m happy to report that the experience went swimmingly: I spent the day in the office, leaving my abode in Aspen Clean’s capable hands, and upon returning home was rewarded with a spotless home. The whole place sparkled and smelled so fresh – a light, pleasant scent (not that overpowering manufactured lemon stuff) – thanks to the company’s own line of organic cleaning products. The chrome fixtures shone with showroom-calibre lustre; the floors positively gleamed; there was even a neat little triangle fold on the toilet paper roll! It was the best kind of pampering.

Best of all, I picked up a few tricks. For example, I got my own bottle of the SuperScrub Powder, which is made with natural lavender and tea tree essential oils. It’s more effective on chrome than any product I’ve ever tried, including window cleaner spray, my previous go-to. It’s also great for cleaning stainless steel as well as washing pots and pans.

Now that all is said and done, I’m not ashamed to say, I’ll do it again – and again. This is my new spring cleaning ritual. What’s yours? Would you delegate the task to the pros or do you pride yourself on taking it on all on your lonesome?
